Ratio Calculator
Simplify a ratio to its lowest terms, or find an equivalent ratio when you scale one side up or down.
Simplified ratio
1 : 2
Find an equivalent ratio
Then B = 20 (ratio 10 : 20)
What Your Result Means
The simplified ratio shows the same proportional relationship using the smallest possible whole numbers. An equivalent ratio keeps that same proportion while scaling one side to a new target value.
How It Is Calculated
Calqora divides both values by their greatest common divisor (GCD) to simplify. For equivalent ratios, it applies cross-multiplication: B = (target A × original B) / original A.
Worked Example
A ratio of 4:8 simplifies to 1:2 (both divided by their GCD of 4). If you want an equivalent ratio where A = 10, then B = (10 × 8) / 4 = 20, giving a ratio of 10:20.
Important Assumptions
- Both values must be non-zero to form a valid ratio.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What's a real-world use for equivalent ratios?
- Scaling recipes, mixing ratios (like paint or concrete), or converting a map scale are all common uses for finding an equivalent ratio.
