Fraction Calculator
Add, subtract, multiply, or divide two fractions, and get the answer as a simplified fraction and a decimal.
Simplified fraction
5/6
Decimal value
0.833333
What Your Result Means
The simplified fraction shows your answer reduced to its lowest terms. The decimal value gives the same answer in decimal form, which can be easier to compare or use in further calculations.
How It Is Calculated
Calqora finds a common denominator for addition and subtraction, multiplies numerators and denominators directly for multiplication, and multiplies by the reciprocal for division. The result is then simplified using the greatest common divisor of the numerator and denominator.
Worked Example
1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6 (already in simplest form), which equals approximately 0.833 as a decimal.
Important Assumptions
- Supports improper fractions (where the numerator is larger than the denominator).
- A denominator of 0 is not mathematically valid and will show an error.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I enter negative fractions?
- Yes - enter a negative numerator (or denominator) and the calculator will handle the sign correctly in the simplified result.
- Does this handle mixed numbers?
- Not directly - convert a mixed number to an improper fraction first (e.g., 1 1/2 becomes 3/2) before entering it.
