Percentage Calculator

Solve the three most common percentage problems: what is X% of Y, what percent X is of Y, and percentage increase or decrease between two numbers.

What Your Result Means

Each mode answers a different question. "What is X% of Y?" finds a portion of a number. "X is what percent of Y?" compares two numbers as a percentage. "Percentage increase/decrease" measures the percent change from one value to another.

How It Is Calculated

X% of Y = (X / 100) × Y

X is what % of Y = (X / Y) × 100

% Change = ((New - Old) / Old) × 100

Worked Example

What is 20% of $85? (20 / 100) × 85 = $17. If a price goes from $85 to $68, that's a change of ((68 - 85) / 85) × 100 = -20%, a 20% decrease.

Important Assumptions

  • Percentage increase/decrease uses the "from" value as the base for the percentage.
