What Your Result Means

TDEE is your best estimate of total calories burned in a day, combining your resting metabolism (BMR) with the energy used through daily activity and exercise. It's the most common baseline used for setting calorie goals.

How It Is Calculated

TDEE = BMR × Activity Multiplier

Worked Example

With a BMR of 1,700 and a "moderately active" multiplier of 1.55, estimated TDEE is 1,700 × 1.55 = 2,635 calories per day.

Important Assumptions

  • Activity multipliers are population averages and may not reflect your exact activity level.
  • If you already know your BMR from a lab test or device, entering it manually will be more accurate than our formula-based estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get my BMR?
You can calculate it with our BMR Calculator, or use a value from a lab metabolic test or fitness tracker if you have one.
How is TDEE different from maintenance calories?
They're the same thing - TDEE is the technical term for the total calories needed to maintain your current weight.
